The 8th Plague Tour: The Riff Concert Review

Machine Head, Suicide Silence, and Darkest Hour
Saturday, January 21st @ Royal Oak Music Theatre

Holy hot damn, another concert on the heels of the last one already! Couple quick notes to start. Poor old Riffie couldn't score a photo pass for this show, so no shitty pics for you to peruse. Epic sad face, I know. Also, you can probably see another band on the tour poster called Rise to Remain. Well, they had to bail from the tour thanks to a broken van.

Okay, onto the show!

I've seen Darkest Hour headline a few times before this, so I was just hoping to hear some new tunes, and that's pretty much what I got. In fact, Darkest Hour's set consisted entirely of material from their last two albums. No old stuff here. I didn't mind this at all, as they're selling themselves to a new audience, so you might of well use the most current material. Take note, In Flames: don't act like the opener when you're the goddam headliner! But more on that in a future post.

Rough night for Suicide Silence. Something went mega haywire with their sound check, so they got reduced to only playing six songs. Granted, those were the hits that everyone knows (Wake Up, Unfallowed, You Only Live Once, ect.), but I thought they sounded just fine! Oh well, house rules are house rules, and SS had to cut it short. Shame, as they were sounding petty awesome.

Holy FUCK! Machine Head put on one of the best performances I've ever seen! In a rare moment, a band actually played every single song I wanted them too! That included stuff from their very first album, all the way to their latest! We got Old, Ten Ton Hammer, Aesthetics of Hate, Halo, Locust, The Blood The Sweat and The Tears, and a bunch of other tunes as well. Te greatest thing was how well the band sounds together now. The Blacking may have been when they became famous, but continued performances like this will make them legends, guaranteed. Once again, take note In Flames!
